In this post am going to explain how to transfer a steam game from one drive to another on the same computer.
Where does Steam install games?
The default installation folder for Steam is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam. And the default Steam Library for installing games is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps. But during installation, you can create a custom installation folder for steam on another partition. You can also create multiple Steam Libraries on different partitions or drives (only one per partition), and move your Steam games between them.

Summary
- Click “Steam”, then “Settings”, then “Downloads”.
- Under “Content Libraries”, click “Steam Library Folders”, then click “Add Library Folder”.
- Next, create a new Steam Library folder on the new drive and name it as you wish.
- In the steam app, right-click on the game you want to move and click “Properties”
- Now, select local files and click “Move Install Folder”.
- Finally, select the new Steam library and click “Move Folder”.
Step 1: Create a new Steam Library
The first thing is to create a new Steam Library on the drive where you want to transfer the game. In my case, it’s the “F” drive. Click the “Steam” button at the top left, then “Settings”, and “Downloads”.

Here, you can see the “Content Libraries” Setting. Click “Steam Library Folders”, then click “Add Library Folder”.

You can create a new library folder on the new drive and name it as you wish. I’ll create the new folder at the following location: F:\Steam Library. Note that steam can only create one Game Library per Drive. After creation, I’ll click “Select” and the new folder will appear in the Steam Libraries list.

Step 2: Transfer game files to the new Steam Library
To move the game files to the new Steam Library, right-click on the game you want to move and select “Properties”.

Then choose local files and click the “Move Install Folder” option. At this point, you should see the drive where the game is currently installed. Now I’ll select the new library on my F Drive. Finally, click “Move Folder” and you’re done. Steam will move your game files to the desired Library. You can repeat this process if you would like to transfer other game files.

The next time you download a game, steam would ask which drive you wish to install it to. Alternatively, you can set one default library to which steam should install games. So, there you have it. That’s how to move a Steam game from one drive to another.
