Does the iPhone 14 have a warranty?
Every original, brand-new iPhone 14 model is covered by Apple’s warranty. Your iPhone 14 warranty begins the moment you activate the phone.
Is your iPhone 14 Warranty international?
No, the iPhone 14 warranty is not international because according to the iPhone warranty terms and conditions, Apple may restrict warranty service for the iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and HomePod to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the device”. Read more about the iPhone warranty in this post: Is iPhone warranty international?
I have long-term experience working for a retail company in the UAE that is also an Apple-authorized reseller and Apple Authorized service center. And I have never personally seen warranty service rejected for an iPhone or iPad from different countries such as the US, UK, etc.
However, in the warranty terms and conditions, Apple says that it can service your iPhone 14 anywhere in the world, as long as international service is available in that region. Therefore, if you visit a country where Apple does not support international service, your iPhone will not be repaired even if it is still under warranty.

“Where international service is available, Apple may repair or replace Apple Products and parts with comparable Apple Products and parts that comply with local standards”.
The iPhone warranty also explains that in certain cases you may have to pay for any additional charges required for the service of your iPhone even if it still has a warranty.
Here’s how Apple explains it: “If you seek service in a country that is not the original country of purchase, you will comply with all applicable import and export laws and regulations and be responsible for all custom duties, V.A.T. and other associated taxes and charges”.
When does your iPhone 14 warranty start?
As a general rule, Apple considers the date of activation of your iPhone 14 as the start date of your warranty. Activation is one of the last steps in setting up an iPhone. Your iPhone 14 will automatically connect to iCloud during activation via WiFi or a cellular network. Once done, Apple will mark that date as the start of your iPhone warranty.

How to check your iPhone 14 warranty & warranty start date.
You can check your iPhone’s warranty status within the settings menu as follows: Tap on Settings, General, then About. In this menu, there is a row named Limited Warranty. By default, the warranty row shows the date of Expiration of your iPhone 14’s warranty, based on its date of activation.
So if your iPhone’s limited warranty expires on Dec 31st, 2023, that means the phone was activated on Dec 30th, 2022. You can tap the Limited Warranty row in your iPhone 14’s settings menu to reveal more warranty hints and options.
Alternatively, you can visit Apple’s official site to check your warranty coverage at the following link: Check iPhone Your Service and Support Coverage. Once there, type the serial number of your iPhone 14, then enter the security code and hit continue. Sometimes Apple can just consider the invoice date as the start date of your iPhone 14 warranty.
How long is an iPhone 14 warranty?
Every iPhone 14 model comes with a 1-year Limited Apple warranty. In other words, if you don’t pay for an extended warranty, your iPhone 14’s warranty period will expire exactly one year after you activate it.

What does Apple mean by 1-year limited warranty?
Generally speaking, a warranty on a product is a guarantee of repair, replacement, or refund in the case of a defect or damage. However, a limited warranty is any warranty that has restrictions as to what kinds of defects, or damage will be covered.
Consequently, when Apple claims the iPhone 14 comes with a 1-year limited warranty, they simply mean that the warranty only covers certain types of defects & parts under normal use according to Apple’s terms and conditions.

Apple’s warranty protects both your iPhone 14 and the accessories that come in its original box. However, this warranty only covers what Apple describes as defects in materials and workmanship when used normally according to Apple’s published guidelines.
Your iPhone 14’s default 1-year warranty does not cover physical damage, such as broken parts, water damage, or damage caused by external factors. It also doesn’t cover cosmetic damage/scratches.
Your iPhone 14’s warranty definitely won’t cover consumable parts that degrade over time like the battery and water-resistant seals. Below is a list of what’s not covered by your iPhone 14’s warranty.
What’s not covered by your iPhone 14’s warranty?
Below is a list of what your iPhone 14’s warranty does not cover:
- Your iPhone 14 warranty does not apply to the loss of your personal data/information stored on the iPhone.
- It doesn’t apply to consumable parts, such as batteries or protective coatings that are designed to diminish over time, unless failure has occurred due to a defect in materials or workmanship.
- It doesn’t apply to cosmetic damage, including but not limited to scratches, dents, and broken plastic on ports unless failure has occurred due to a defect in materials or workmanship.
- It doesn’t apply to damage caused by use with a third-party component or product that does not meet the Apple Product’s specifications (Apple Product specifications are available at www.apple.com under the technical specifications for each product and also available in stores).
- It doesn’t apply to damage caused by accident, abuse, misuse, fire, liquid contact, earthquake, or other external cause.
- It doesn’t apply to damage caused by operating the Apple Product outside Apple’s published guidelines.
- It doesn’t apply to damage caused by service (including upgrades and expansions) performed by anyone who is not a representative of Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider (“AASP”).
- It doesn’t apply to an Apple Product that has been modified to alter functionality or capability without the written permission of Apple.
- It doesn’t apply to defects caused by normal wear and tear or otherwise due to the normal aging of Apple Products.
- It doesn’t apply if any serial number has been removed or defaced from the Apple Product.
- It doesn’t apply if Apple receives information from relevant public authorities or registries that the product has been stolen or if you are unable to deactivate passcode-enabled or other security measures designed to prevent unauthorized access to the Apple Product, and you cannot prove in any way that you are the authorized user of the product (e.g., by presenting proof of purchase). To the extent permitted by local law, Apple may provide hardware identifier information from the Apple Product to such authorities or registries for security and fraud prevention purposes.

To claim your iPhone warranty, you have to contact an Apple representative at an Apple-owned retail store or Apple Authorized Service Provider. They first have to determine if the iPhone requires service. And if it does then they will inform you how the warranty service will be provided. In that case, you would have to submit the device to an Apple Store or Apple service center by carry-in or by mail.
How does apple handle an iPhone 14 warranty claim?
- Visit the nearest Apple Store to your location.
- Sometimes Apple may refer you to the most suitable Apple Authorized Service Center nearby.
- If you bought an iPhone from an authorized retailer, you may visit their nearest store to send your device for repair.
- Alternatively, you may call Apple customer care in your country and arrange to ship the phone to them.
What to do before sending your iPhone 14 for warranty service?
There are a few very important things you must do before sending your iPhone 14 for warranty service.
- You should make a complete backup copy of the information contained on your device.
- Remove all sensitive information or better still format the iPhone.
- Disable all your security passwords. After warranty service, the phone’s operating system would probably be formatted and updated to the latest iOS version. Apple would not be responsible for any loss of information during warranty service.
Will Apple replace your iPhone 14 if it’s under warranty?
From my experience working in this industry, there are three main ways that Apple can solve a warranty claim.
- They will first attempt to repair your iPhone 14 using either new or previously used parts that would provide the same performance and reliability as a brand-new part.
- If option one above doesn’t work, then may replace your iPhone 14 with a brand-new one, an upgraded model, or a certified refurbished model that has the same performance as the phone you submitted.
- In the case where the two previous options don’t work out, Apple may give you a refund of your purchase price.
