Apple has twigged the iPhone 13 versions a little bit this year. So a few things have changed ever since last year’s iPhone 12 versions which I explained in this post.
This year Apple has categorized the iPhone 13 into 5 groups of countries as follows.

Group 1: The USA iPhone 13 Version
Group 1 only contains the US version. According to Apple Insider, the US iPhone 13 variant is the only one that supports mmWave 5G. I was quite surprised when I read that on their website.
So I had to confirm that information. Hence I visited Apple USA’s iPhone 13 specs web page.
And noticed that the 3D model of the iPhone 13 & 13 Pro there, has a clear representation of a groove, which you won’t find in any other iPhone versions.
That groove is actually just a 5G mmWave antenna. mmWave is a set of 5G frequencies that promise ultra-fast speeds at short distances, making it best suited for dense urban areas.
Apart from that, the US iPhone 13 versions also support all other Sub-6 GHz 5G bands that Apple can possibly put in the iPhone.
That means, just like last year’s iPhone 12 the US iPhone 13 variant remains the most 5G compatible version this year.

USA iPhone 13 version Model Numbers
iPhone 13 Pro Model A2483, iPhone 13 Pro Max Model A2484, iPhone 13 Model A2482, iPhone 13 mini Model A2481.
Group 2: The Dual Nano Sim Card iPhone 13 versions
Next is group 2 which includes China Mainland, Hong Kong, and Macau. The unique feature of this version is that they can use two nano sim cards simultaneously instead of the regular eSim + nano sim card combination which all the other models use.
But according to various sources, in the China Mainland variant FaceTime Audio and Wi-Fi calling is not supported.
Even though they are available in the Hong Kong and Macau versions. Below are the Model numbers for the Hong Kong and China iPhone 13 variants.

Group 3: The Russian iPhone 13 versions
Group 3 is a little bit unique because it contains countries that speak Russian. According to sources, the iPhone 13 versions here offer some Russian apps during setup as required by the local regulations.

The group includes the following countries. Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. Below are the model numbers for the iPhones in this group.

iPhone 13 Pro Model A2640, iPhone 13 Pro Max Model A2645, iPhone 13 Model A2635, iPhone 13 mini Model A2630.
Group 4: Canada, Japan, Saudi Arabian iPhone 13 versions
Group 4 includes the following countries. Canada, Guam, Japan, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Saudi Arabia, and USVI.
Nothing really stands out about the iPhone 13s in this group. Apart from the Japan version. By default, you cannot turn off the shutter sound in the Japan iPhone version.
However, I was able to find some very recent developments regarding the camera shutter sound on Japan iPhone versions which requires you to hit the like button and subscribe before proceeding.
Because, according to the information I obtained from this thread on Apple’s support community group, I’ll leave the link in the description below.
It seems the recent iOS 15 update in the Japan iPhone 13 version, checks your geolocation and if it determines that you are located outside of Japan then you can mute the camera shutter sound just like in other iPhone versions. A statement that was confirmed by multiple users on the Apple Community Forum.

The Japan iPhone official camera shutter sound easy Fix – iOS 15

Group 5 The Global iPhone 13 variant
Group 5 contains all countries from other countries not included in the previous 4 groups. Their iPhone 13 variants have nothing out of the ordinary except the South Korean version.
According to sources, just like the Japan iPhone 13, the South Korean iPhone 13 also has the Camera Shutter sound lock. That means you cannot turn off the camera shutter sound of this iPhone.

Facetime in Middle East iPhones
Now, on the topic of facetime in UAE and KSA iPhones. iPhones from these countries now come with FaceTime per-installed.
However, FaceTime still officially does not work in the UAE. You can only make a FaceTime call in the UAE with the help of a VPN.
